Sona Valentova and Jaroslava Obermaierova are two Czech-born female modernists who were active in the mid-20th century. Valentova was a painter and sculptor who was known for her abstract works, while Obermaierova was a graphic designer and illustrator. Both were part of the Czech avant-garde movement and were heavily influenced by the Constructivist and Surrealist movements. Their works were exhibited in various galleries and museums in Czechoslovakia and abroad. Valentova and Obermaierova were also active in the Czechoslovakian art scene, founding the Prague-based group, The Group of Eight. They were both instrumental in promoting modern art in their country and beyond.
