Merle Wasmuth (1917-1998) was an American painter, printmaker, and teacher. Born in Iowa, she studied at the University of Iowa and then moved to New York City to study at the Art Students League. Later, she moved to Chicago to teach at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Wasmuth's work was primarily abstract, including collages, lithographs, and woodcuts. Her work was exhibited in galleries throughout the United States, and she was an active member of the Society of American Graphic Artists. Wasmuth was also a founding member of the Chicago Women's Graphics Collective. She continued to teach and create art until her death in 1998.
