Marie Trintignant (1962-2003) was a French actress and director. She starred in over 40 films, including the award-winning And Now Ladies and Gentlemen (2002). Trintignant also directed two films, Betty (1992) and Nuit d'ivresse (1993). She was the daughter of actor Jean-Louis Trintignant and actress Nadine Trintignant. Trintignant was killed in 2003, following an altercation with her then-boyfriend, the musician Bertrand Cantat. She was 41. Her death sparked national debate in France about domestic violence. A foundation in her name was created to support victims of domestic violence. Trintignant's legacy lives on in the work of her children, who are all actors.
