Mara Nicolescu is a Romanian-American artist and educator. She was born in Romania and moved to the United States in 1989. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Bucharest, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico. Nicolescu has exhibited her artwork in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Her works have been featured in the New York Times, Art in America, and Artforum. She has also received awards and grants from organizations such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts. In addition to her art practice, Nicolescu is also a professor of painting and drawing at the University of Arizona. She is a passionate advocate for the arts and has been actively involved in the Tucson art community for over two decades.
