Ligia Branice (1917-1996) was a Romanian-born American actress and dancer. She was born in Romania and studied dance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in Bucharest. In the 1940s, she moved to the United States and performed in various Broadway productions. She was also active in film, appearing in such classics as The Uninvited (1944) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945). In later years, she was a regular on the television series The Edge of Night and The Guiding Light. Branice was also a choreographer and teacher of dance, and she founded the Ligia Branice Dance Company in New York City. Her legacy lives on in the many students she taught and the performances she inspired.
