Imelda Staunton is an English actress, singer and theatre director. She is best known for her roles in films such as Sense and Sensibility, Vera Drake, Nanny McPhee and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Staunton began her career in the late 1970s, performing in various plays and television shows. She made her Broadway debut in 1984 in the play Entertaining Mr Sloane. In 1990, she was cast in the role of Elinor Dashwood in the film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

Staunton has since appeared in numerous films, television shows and theatre productions, including the lead role in the West End production of Gypsy. In 2005, she was awarded an OBE for services to drama. In 2014, she was awarded a CBE for her services to drama and charity.

Staunton is currently married to actor Jim Carter and they have one daughter. She is an active supporter of several charities, including the British Red Cross and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
